Previous Visiting Fellow at Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge and member of the Central Committee of the British Medical Association.  Vice Chairman (1984-1993) BMA  N.E. Thames Consultants and Specialists Committee.  Elected and co-opted on to various Executive Committees of London University and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and lead author of reports. 

Previous Royal College Examination Officer and representative to the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry.
Previous member of London University Examination Committee, Phd. Examiner at Manchester Univ., and prize adjucator for the Royal Society of Medicine. Author or editor of 5 books, including a textbook (2 editions) which was recommended reading by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and Editor in Chief for Bailliere's Clinical Psychiatry series (11 vols).  Publications include many book chapters and about 200 Scientific  papers and Editorials, including publications on depression and psychiatric reactions to stress.

Invited presentations at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Royal Society of Medicine, the Maudsley Hospital, foreign meetings and institutions, and British Medical Schools and Universities.
Initiated and ran courses for the British Postgraduate Federation at 3 Teaching Hospitals and for the Medical Research Council, video teaching material and a rating scale prepared for the World Health Organisation (WHO). 
Referee for several psychiatric journals and the British Medical Journal. Member Editorial Board, British Journal of Medical Practitioners.

Instructions received from Germany, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Norway, where I was an appointed expert to the Crown Court, Oslo.  Instructed by the Metropolitan Police, the Official Solicitor, the Treasury Solicitor, the Serious Fraud Office, Department of Public Prosecutions in England and also the Channel  Islands, the Royal College of Nursing, the Medical Defence Society, the Medical Protection Society, the NHS Litigation Authority and individual NHS trusts, and given invited advice to the General Medical Council and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. 

Founder member of the Expert Witness Institute and on the Law Society's panel of experts.  Several reported cases.
